As being one of the biggest mobile and fixed network operators in Türkiye, we aim to acknowledge 5G and B5G scenarios in advance with R&D-I projects. Türk Telekom (TT) has two R&D centers based in İstanbul and Ankara, and it carries out different national projects as well as international projects including ITEA, Celtic Next (+ some Horizon applications ongoing) in these R&D centers. In brief, in these projects, TT provides testbeds, for LTE-A and 5G connectivity, for real-case deployment scenarios of different verticals which avail 5G and B5G connectivity. It also carries out some PoC works of next generation communication technologies in manufacturing and energy industries in addition to taking the responsibility of some task leaderships in the projects. In general, the ultimate goal of TT is to meet new communciation technology solutions with artificial intelligence to enable itself for providing communications technologies of the future for both its operaitons and vertical applications.
TT is one of the biggest network operators in Türkiye, and it dates back to more than 100 years . It offers mobile, fixed network access for more than 35 million people in Türkiye with diverse telecom services. Its service spectrum ranges from PSTN (fixed telephone services), broadband internet services to digital TV broadcasting and mobile operating. It has several subsdiary firms including AssisTT as a call center, Argela operating in convergence technologies, Innova as an IT solution provider, Türk Telekom International operating as data and capacity service provider , Türk Telekom Elektrik as operating electricty distributor.
TT has several partneships with international vendors such as Huawei, Ericsson, and Nokia as the companies provide solutions for the company. In addition to that, TT also has partnerhsip with local ecosystem vendors, and contributes to the use of productized projects in the network, research, development, innovation and patent production. TT is the founding player and backbone of the ecosystem in Turkey in the field of Fixed and Mobile Communication Technologies. For example, within the scope of 4G mobile technologies, it was started to be developed by Aselsan A.Ş., Netaş İletişim, Argela companies and later by ULAK İletişim A.Ş. It has become the leading operator of TT in determining the requirements of the 4G eNodeB, which continues to be developed by TT, and in the use of tests in the laboratory and in the field on the existing network. This capability is currently actively used in the TT network with approximately 485 local eNodeBs.
TT supports local and national 5G improvements by ensuring compliance and performing basic function and service tests in our test center. Within the scope of the End-to-End Domestic National 5G Communication Technology Project, which was previously carried out by TÜBİTAK, national scientific body of Türkiye, with 15 developer companies and 3 operators, 5G network products are tested in test laboratories. The 5th Generation Mobile Communication Infrastructure Call Program, launched by the Research Center of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Infrastructure at the beginning of 2023, is also supported and radio is a partner in core network product developments. Within the scope of the same project, TT's domestic product 5G integration work features for the detection and analysis of abnormal network traffic applications. TT contributes to the established reputation of the 5G ecosystem by producing innovation-centered products and intellectual properties through its partnership Argela and Innova companies. It is currently working on NPM (Network Performance Management) / CEM (Customer Experience Management) solutions, probe developments and 5G harmonization with Argela company, and is working on a joint RIC (Smart Radio Controller) product with Juniper Networks.
TT has also active roles in some international associations such as Open Network Foundation (ONF), Open RAN Alliance, Broadband Forum, Linux Foundation, Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP), in the scope of R&D and standardization efforts.
Ultimately, in relation to 6G SNS projects, TT has objective to offer novel technologies in its services with broad knowledge and know-how by acquiring the knowledge for 5G and B5G technologies with R&D-I projects prior to commercialization stage, and take the leading role in these technologies' deployment in Türkiye.
