Within the Smart Technologies department in IRT, we have expertise in the following domains:
- TN/NTN: we specialize in the development of SATCOM virtualized network functions to facilitate the integration of the satellite into 5G mobile telecommunication networks. This includes network slicing, traffic steering and smart management of virtualized network service chains based on machine learning solutions. We focus on 5G slicing for non-3GPP links (e.g., satellite links). In this regard, IRT has developed several 5G core functions to ensure the continuity of the slices on a non-3GPP satellite link.
- Networking and Virtualization: we host a a cloud infrastructure that includes 15 servers, 100 TB of storage capacity, a 10 Gbit/s fiber with internet access, edge computers, a gNB RAN, a free5GC and Open5GS core networks, P4 switches, and USRPs programmable SDR compatible with open air Interface. This enables supporting research activities on dynamic routing, automatic scaling, and service orchestration, with operated or emulated satellite links (LEO & GEO). We also have access to a licensed private 5G network.
- AI: we focus on Administration and Network Management Systems such as zero touch and automated (AI based) operation with security measures.
Potential contributions:
1- Full control of the Non Terrestrial Network components.
2- 5G advanced and 6G End to end lab and real testbed based on open architecture, cybersecurity, AI/orchestration & Edge computing , Slicing and QoS management.
3- Integrated terrestrial and non terrestrial access.
4- End to end value chain covering services/applications, devices, ground and in orbit network components.
5- Innovative use cases from the aerospace and automotive industries.
6- Administration and Network Management Systems such as zero touch and automated (AI based) operation with security measures.
