The idea is to develop and test decentralized edge/modular data centres at the edge of the network. These would be smaller data centres than traditional ones and consume less power. Currently there is much debate in Ireland about the amount of electricity large data centres consume. In this case data would be disaggregated across the data centres, so that if one data centre failed because of lack of power, unfavourable weather conditions or a cybersecurity attack, data would fall back to an alternative data centre.
