The idea is to develop and test decentralized edge/modular data centres at the edge of the network. These would be smaller data centres than traditional ones and consume less power. Currently there is much debate in Ireland about the amount of electricity large data centres consume. In this case data would be disaggregated across the data centres, so that if one data centre failed because of lack of power, unfavourable weather conditions or a cybersecurity attack, data would fall back to an alternative data centre. Communications lines would also fall back to a second data centre. Data Centers would also be connected to a Smart-Grid. In essence, Data Centres, Communications lines and Smart-Grids would work in unison to process data. Ideally these data centres would be located in smaller municipal districts, rural areas, smart rural regions and along the coast. The idea would be suitable where low latency and real-time communications are required. Mission-Critical applications and Internet of Things services and solutions come to mind. For example the technology could be used by the Emergency Services, for Telemedicine/Telehealth applications, the Utility & Renewable Energy sector and by Sports bodies and Television & Media outlets for live broadcasts.
Atlantic Wireless Telecommunications is an Irish company who provide wireless connectivity solutions to Governments, Semi-State bodies and SME’s in the EMEA region. We have our main headquarters in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland with an exploratory office at Covent Garden, London in the UK. We operate in the M2M, IoT, Scada and Emergency Services space across a wide range of industries. We focus on mission-critical applications and deliver high quality, robust, secure and reliable solutions to our customers. As every application is different we use a combination of wired and wireless transmission methods to implement a solution. For example this could be a private stand alone 4G/5G cellular network, a licenced RF Point to Point solution with fall-back to cellular radio or vice-versa, Cellular with fall-back to Satellite. Fibre Optic with fall-back to Cellular, Satellite or RF Point to Point or vice-versa etc.
