Huawei Sweden R&D offers wide expertise in all areas covering the Radio Access Network (RAN), from RF and baseband (BB) processing research and implementation to system level architecture, wireless algorithm design, base station engineering as well as Core Network, digital power and chipset design. We bring extensive experience in previous EU project participation (MSCA, CELTIC, HORIZON, FP7, etc.) as well as in bilateral cooperation with universities and research centres all across Europe.
The BB Laboratory performs research and delivers high-end solutions for the implementation of the BB unit (BBU). Ranging from high-level BB system design aspects and architecture, infrastructure, dimensioning, planning and deployment; to low-level hardware/software aspects related to the digital signal processing implementation of layers L1 to L3. A range of simulation platforms covering different abstraction levels (macro to microscopic) are leveraged.
Our main interests are in C-RAN deployments and BB functionality disaggregation, covering architecture and infrastructure aspects, digital BB processing and algorithm design with a focus on compute complexity and hardware/software co-design. Joint management of radio and compute resources is a core competence along with the transport mechanisms for the exchange of data between BB entities (e.g. via the fronthaul), but also at lower layers between boards, chips, cores etc. In addition to throughput and spectral efficiency metrics, our competence is also focused on otherwise overlooked KPIs such as latency in real-time deadline-based processing platforms, energy efficiency and mapping of functions onto heterogeneous processor platforms.
The impact of proposed wireless algorithms and solutions on compute, storage/memory and transport are key competences brought by the team that will complement and take project proposals to another level by examining the intricacies of software and hardware implementation of future wireless standards.
Founded in 1987, Huawei Technologies is one of the fastest growing telecommunications and network solutions providers in the world. In 2000, Huawei established the first overseas R&D office in Sweden. Huawei Technology Sweden is continuously growing and with 300+ R&D engineers located in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Lund we are trailblazing the path to future 5G and beyond with focus on standardization, research and pre-development.
